Evan Shallcross
Evan Shallcross began violin study at age nine with twin cities musicians Taichi and Robin Chen. He holds performance degrees from Oberlin Conservatory (BM) and the Yale School of Music (MM), where he studied with teachers Milan Vitek and Syoko Aki.
Evan has since performed and held positions with major professional orchestras in the United States and abroad, including the New Haven Symphony, Minnesota Orchestra, Macao Orchestra, City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, and as concertmaster of the Gustav Mahler Orchestra of Hong Kong. Presently he serves as concertmaster of the St. Cloud Symphony.
Nurturing a love for small ensemble playing, he also co-founded the Hong Kong Chamber Music Collective and more recently the twin cities-based Crossroads String Duo, and has been involved in various projects as a soloist, conductor, composer and arranger.
In parallel with his performance career, Evan has long been passionate about teaching students and ensembles of all ages and levels, employing a custom-designed string curriculum. He strives to help students build technical comfort and confident, well-rounded musicianship that draws on and grows their love of music.
Outside of music, Evan enjoys disc golf, photography, dance, and learning about social science, physics and philosophy. And watching cat videos.
