Lucan O'Neal

Lucan O'Neal

Lucan O’Neal graduated from St. Olaf College in 2026, earning a Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and a Bachelor of Arts in German. He performs actively around southern Minnesota and the twin cities, as well as having given concerts in Norway, Germany, Czechia, and Poland. Lucan is new to the Mount Calvary Academy of Music, and is excited to get started! He believes that every student has potential as a musician because the way they hear music, and the reasons they are moved by it will necessarily be unique to them. He views his role as a teacher primarily as someone who helps to remove the roadblocks that stand between a student and their artistic vision.

While he does preach performance practice, stylistically consistent touch and faithfulness to the score, as a teacher, that’s all secondary to three main objectives: growing student’s technique in sustainable ways that will allow them to avoid injury long-term, teaching students to be even better musicians than they are pianists–people who can read well, and improvise and play by ear, and teaching students how to practice effectively. Lucan is also wrapping up his Piano Technology apprenticeship and is excited to be tuning and repairing instruments around Minnesota.
