Emily Olson
Oboe, English Horn & Piano
Emily Olson joined the teaching faculty of Mount Calvary Academy of Music in 2015. She enjoys the opportunity to work with a variety of ages of students and loves being able to see students' musical and technical progress. Emily also has served as adjunct instructor of oboe at St. Cloud State University since 2013. Emily works as a board-certified music therapist, currently working primarily with older adult clients.
A native of Minnesota, Emily received a Bachelor of Music degree in oboe performance from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois, where she was awarded the Presser Undergraduate Scholar Award. Emily received Master of Music and Doctor of Musical Arts degrees in oboe performance from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, and she also completed the music therapy equivalency program at the University of Minnesota.
Emily has subbed with the Minnesota Orchestra and Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra. She has taught non-major oboe lessons at the University of Minnesota as an Instructor of Record and has served as an oboe mentor to young oboists in the top orchestra of Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies. She enjoys reading Jane Austen novels, walking outdoors, and writing letters.
