The Academy offers private lesson instruction in nearly every musical discipline including piano, violin, cello, string bass, flute, saxophone, clarinet, oboe, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, voice, guitar and percussion. Private lessons are available to students of all ages - from children to adults. Our lesson instructors bring their individual teaching philosophy and personal experience to their teaching studios. Students are placed with instructors based on their personal objectives for pursuing musical study. Each student's individual experience is of utmost importance to the Academy of Music, and we believe the experience begins with each student's relationship with their instructor and a common understanding of goals and preferences.
Private Lesson Study will include the following as appropriate to each student's particular situation:
1. Private lesson study: Development of skills and knowledge pertaining to the performance and understanding of a particular instrument.
2. Traditional Recital Performance with Purpose: Offered at the conclusion of each semester, the performances are theme-based to provide insight to the larger meaning of music and its potential as a means of communication and understanding and as a means for spiritual expression. Along with the technical and artistic preparations during lessons, students and teachers also discuss a chosen text that speaks to these capacities of music. All recital opportunities are optional.
3. Service Opportunities: Solo and ensemble sharing of musical gifts in community service projects and in church worship settings. The purpose here is to teach students to give of their music to enrich the lives of others. All service opportunities are optional.
